I've spent FAR too many hours of my life thinking of the day I'll be fitting a V8 into my C70. Theoretically the 2.3 HPT 5 cylinder has to eventually give in (and assuming I can afford a V8 engine) and even if it doesn't, I'd like to make the worlds first V8 C70!

So what do you guys think?

The best option seems to be the V8 straight out of the XC90 and new S80. Supposedly its the same size as the 2.5T (had to be to fit in its place) so fitting it in should take minimal modification. Also the transmission is partially built into the engine as well to conserve space? (correct me if I'm wrong) so there is the possibility of upgrading to a 6speed auto as well? yeah that would be a huge bummer since my C70 is a manual, but its hard to beat V8 power. Then with upgrades to the V8 to up more power from 311hp, that would be quite a beast!

Another option I've thought about would be to put a crate engine in from GM, the LS2, but then consideration would have to be taken in that its not transversly mounted and would take more modification getting it to fit

THEN I keep thinking, hmm, FWD V8  yeah, that would be fun 

So then even MORE modification would need to take place in making the C70 RWD or better still, AWD.

Yes, essentially you'd be looking the costs of buying a whole new car, but the point is to not want to get a whole new car, but to turn the C70, a car designed to stand the tests of all time (maybe) into a new car.

Anyway... brainstorm away!

Why not try the V8 from a audi S8 from 1999. Engine puts out 360 hp en is probably lighter as well.

If you really want something almost anything is possible. But when its about speeds you can beter take an T5 engine and modify it with stronger internals and a bigger turbo 400 hp should be reachable with the right stuff and you much lighter dan a V8.

En lichter?  Hmm, volgens mij was de Volvo V8 ook niet zwaar.

Volgens mij is de 4,2 liter fsi motor van audi lichter maar ik kan het verkeerd hebben. De audi is i.e.g. ruim 20 cm groter en 5 cm en ik meen gelijk in gewicht. Dan zal er toch iets lichter moeten zijn.


Hoe en waar je een bak wil laten zou ik echt niet weten. Ik heb al mensen die hele bodemplaat en motorruim zien ombouwen om een corrado en golf 1 4 wieldrive te maken dus alles kan.

Als het volvo blok 1 op 1 past is dat natuurlijk een veel makkelijker en goedkopere oplossing.

Maar klinkt wel als een gaaf project. gewoon een kwestie van de hele aandrijflijn + motor over lepelen. Simpel.

My friend had a 2004 GTO (Holden Monaro) with the 5.7 LS2 V8, nothing, has ever felt the same since then. Turbo lag is such a drag!!! Before I bought my C70 I was initially looking for a Holden/Vauxhal/Pontiact GTO/Monaro but the costs of running a car like that right now is kinda out of my budget. If I were in the US now I'd for sure go for a GTO. more power for less money!

Lucky for me my childhood dream car was a Saffron C70 and they were in my price range. Maybe it makes more sense to upgrade the 2.3, but lets face it, a V8 C70 just sounds cool and would look even better!
