PROJECT SHARON INTRO

Lately it seems like everyone's got a project going one way or another and it all seems to come down to one of two things: better handling and above all, more horses under the hood. Inspiration from projects such as those by Johann and his SD projects or Jerommeke by Tom or the countless projects by Doug in the U.S. with RKautotechnik are far from few.

Project Sharon will definitly be aiming for that too with the usuals such as a downpipe, air filter, dump valve, intercooler, bigger turbo, bigger brakes, perhaps redone engine internals or even a bigger engine all together. Our cars are so modifiable it would be almost stupid not to attempt to extract the extra power waiting to be unleashed.

However, I'm no mechanic and my knowledge about these things is limited to what I've learnt from others over the years and from reading up on  forums such as these where people far more knowledgable that I have posted their ideas and experiences. Plus with experts from ET, IPD, Heico, Volvo Motorsports, Rica, RK, etc, it seems like a matter of pick and choose what best suits you and your needs and just going for it; hardly an R&D job.

Also, last night I was on my way home and at the lights before hitting the highway I had an Audi A3 pull up next to me, it seemed pretty modded and he was reving and wanted a race... nooooo problem, I had already pulled away numerous car lengths by 3rd gear. The rest of the way home I cruised at about 150-160 and realised that with with the chip and exhaust that I already have installed, that the quest for more power, however cool it might be, seems to bequent what I already have which for everyday use is more than enough!

Inspiration for Project Sharon has come from many different directions as well as you'll come to see from the pictures I'll post below

PROJECT SHARON AIM

I love my car, not just for the simple fact that its a Volvo, but because it's unique. I hated my old silver 206 mostly because I saw them everywhere I went. I feel bad for Volvo sometimes that the C70 didn't sell as well as they had hoped but on the other hand, that turned out to be a good thing for me. As a designer and a creative person by nature, I'm always on the look out to be more unique and different, while still maintaining the class and originallity that drew me towards whatever it was to begin with. I guess the C70 has been labelled by some on this forum as a "nichtenauto" for a reason.

I had a conversation with Ludy at the Winter in Holland meet about how he thought that Saffron was a little too out there for his taste, and I can agree that some may think that, but its the whole reason I love this car even more and Project Sharon is only going to build on that. The C70's design will stand the test of time for many years to come, part of the aim of this project is to take that concept further. The only other reasons I can think of why any a car would be as rare as the C70 is because it is expensive or a piece of crap.

Some of you may think "all show and no go" but I'll dispute that for 2 reasons: 1. I WILL be modifying the car's performance as well, it just won't be the focal point of the project and 2. How can a stock T5 not have any "go" let alone one that already has a Rica chip installed?

I plan to do as many of the mods myself with the help of others as possible. This is by no means a "here, this is what I want, call me when it's done" deal. I intend to learn and get my hands as dirty as I can with this project; think of it as a learning process / work in progress situation.

PROJECT SHARON TIME FRAME

No time soon. I'm still finishing a Masters degree which will hopefully be done by end summer 2007, after which any money I make will probably be invested in other things, but I've already made contact with several manufacturers and fabricators who are willing to work with me on some of the custom ideas I have (bumper, rims, gas cap, console, etc etc, etc) and some of these ideas will start to be realized within the first few months of 2007. With all that in mind, I'll post some of the images I've created to give my ideas a visual. These are just a tiny sample of what I have planned, but enjoy none the less!

Benzinedop is gaaf. Bekleding ook.
Ben benieuwd of je er een ander motor in gaat stoppen. Dan toch maar een V8?

That's the whole point of this project. And I kinda figured I would get these kinds of reactions, it's no surprise to me, too bad it doesn't put me off.

Iedereen moet doen waar hij zijn in heeft als daar de mogelijkheid voor is. Succes met je project en ik ben erg benieuwd naar het uiteindelijke resultaat.

we kunnen niet genoeg projecten hebben hier naar mijn mening

de voorbumper vind ik op de sleuven in de zijkant na mooi
interieur is een op het oog simpele mod, (al zul je hiervoor wel je hele interieur moeten herstofferen )
Eindelijk eens iemand die ook iets aan het interieur van z'n auto doet 

Velgen vind ik ook stoer staan
Is je dak in een hoogglans zwart geen idee? dan is het net of je een glazen panoramadak hebt

Inpired by the new TT, it will be brushed aluminum, I was a little skeptical as well but I've seen the metal to be used in person, it will look really look trust me!

High Bandwidth | Low Bandwidth

I always wanted a differentiating lip on my rim but also wanted pegs and saw a few people had done chrome lips, but I REALLY hate chrome, then I saw a video of a guy modifying his F430 and he painted it orange and put orange lipped rims on his Ferrari, boom = inspired!

The whole interior is going to be redone, not just the stitching, the leather/cloth seats have faded, torn and replacing them would refresh the entire look. Painting the whole roof was an idea, but at the moment I feel like it takes away too much of the Saffron, which I happen to be in love with, I can't get enough of the color

Thanks for the comments, as mixed as they might be, I appreciate them none the less. This is all a matter of opinion and taste, but I'm sure, like so many of my friends who when they first saw a Saffron C70 in pictures on the internet thought, OMG. Orange is so gay! and then when they see it in person for the first time said "OMG THAT IS SWEET DUDE! I WANT ONE! I'm sure you guys will change your tunes too.
