Kate's R has what seems to be a loud buzzing sound coming from behind the left headlight. It sounds like its coming from the copper coil area (the starter motor?)

With the key in position I the buzzing is quite loud and at a certain pitch but then in position II with the headlights and dash lights on, the buzzing tone goes down slightly so its obviously electrical.

Its only just started happening and it could be a condition of the sub freezing temps that have recently started, but just to be sure, might it be a sign of something about to go horribly wrong? or just the engine adapting to the weather?

I should also ad that the cooling fan stays on long after the car has been shut down, even after really short drives where the really is no need for excessive cooling...

Expertise is welcome, and of course we all wanna help the hot R chick ;)

how come its started being so loud all of a sudden?

I'm not shitting you... ;) werkt echt.

a few more developments and some more info:

whats starts off as a loud buzzing/humming sound doesn't seem to go away even after 20 minutes of highway driving anymore. A clicking sound also starts after a few minutes of regular driving, same kind of ticking as if the car is cooling down except maybe 2 per second and constantly.

scarier still; upon starting the car, it will idle at 2000rpm for about 15 seconds before dropping back down to 900. Driving around and waiting in neutral at the lights, the car also revs up to 2000 with my foot no where near the gas pedal!

the last thing i noticed is that after the engine has warmed up and the temperature needle is in the middle, if the engine is shut off for just a few seconds and restart again, the temp drops back down to the bottom, which i don't think is quite right.

So we've got buzzing, high idle revs, rapid cooling, what ae these symptoms of?

Any help is appreciated before we decide to go to a dealer to have them check it out.

i have no idea why ive been saying that the humming has been coming from behind the left headlight. it is in fact coming from behind the RIGHT headlight (passenger side), very clear and prominent!
