Prijzen Volvo USA. Ach je hebt er niks aan maar toch aardig om te weten

Irvine, Ca (August 4, 2004) ? Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) announced pricing for its 2005 model year lineup today. Following on the heels of Volvo's hottest July sales month ever, the announcement continues to illustrate the tremendous value across the Swedish automotive manufacturer's entire line of cars, wagons and SUVs.

    For 2005 Volvo once again expands its model range with the addition of the exciting V50 activity sportswagon, a car that's destined to find its way into more than a few garages of today's active-lifestyle buyers. The all-new 2005 V50 carries a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $25,660 for the naturally aspirated front-wheel-drive 2.4i, and $27,260 for the front-wheel-drive turbocharged T5. An all-wheel-drive version of the T5 will also be offered for a base price of just $28,910.

    The 2005 Volvo automobile line also includes the new S40 sports sedan, award-winning XC90, the redesigned S60 performance sedan, S80 luxury sedan, versatile V70 wagon and rugged Cross Country, and the beautiful C70 convertible. Listed below are prices by model.

Just when the VW Group thought it had the classy family hatchback market sewn up, theres a new contender on the way from sweden. We have already been impressed by Volvo's S40 and V50 - but now there is another model to look forward to: the V30

The pictures here are based on information from within the company,and provide the first glimpse of a car that will aim to tempt image-conscious buyers away from established favourites such as Audi's A3 and the Volkswagen Golf. As Volvo's first small hatchback since the conservative 440 was dropped back in 1997, the V30 would be joined by a sporty 3-door variant which is expected to be called the S30.

The design shown here is far more muscular than the S40 saloon, and it takes its inspiration from the Safety Concept Car unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in 2001. There's also a passing resemblance to the 480 ES coupe. Volvo hinted at the possibility of a hatchback more recently with a range of concept models displayed at last year's New York exhibition. As with its stablemate, the V30 will be based on the Ford C1 platform, which underpins the next-generation Focus. That means owners will reap the benefits of a capable chassis, which could be set up to turn the all-new model into a performance-orientated driver's car.

Volvo is expected to expand its R range of hot models with an S40 variant next year, so enthusiasts shouldnt rule out the possibility of a hot hatch based on the V30 in the future.

While there have been no official details released about the compact duo, the maker is likely to unveil hatchback concepts at one of next years top motor shows. That means customers shouldnt expect to see the new five-door Volvo before the end of 2006.

VOLVO S60 R RACECAR TO MAKE FIRST APPEARANCE ON TRACK AT ROAD AMERICA AUGUST 21, 2004



With final testing complete, the Volvo S60 R is set to make its racing debut in the SPEED World Challenge GT race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, August 21st, 2004.

    Irvine, Calif. (August 16, 2004) - After completing months of development work and weeks of brutal on-track testing, Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA), its retailers and At Speed Motorsports announced today that its race-bred S60 R will make its debut on the famed Road America racetrack in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, this Saturday, August 21st. At the wheel of the all-wheel-drive turbocharged S60 R will be five time LeMans 24 winner, Derek Bell.

    "We knew going into this that it wouldn't be easy, but we knew it could be done," commented John Maloney, Vice President of Communications for VCNA. "It great to see how solidly the S60 R has performed during these last few days of testing. The support and dedication that we've seen from our retailers and the team from At SPEED has been wonderful. It will be even better to see the Volvo S60 R competing out on the track."

    "I couldn't be happier with the track results," said team owner, Bob Miller. "This is what we've been working so hard for all year. But it's really just the first step. Now we have to show everyone else it was worth the wait. I'm not promising a podium, but I can promise you that we'll be competitive, and people will notice us."

    Getting to this point has been no small task. Originally planned to compete at Lime Rock in May, development time took longer than originally anticipated. ?Testing is vital to any competitive team and I knew we were going to need a lot of testing before we raced," noted Bell in an earlier interview. "This is a car with unbridled potential and it?s really my call when it comes to being race ready or simply race capable. The development process is a huge undertaking for everyone involved.?

    So how does Bell feel about his chances at Road America? When asked about his expectations once the car readies on the start grid this weekend Bell said, ?Everyone involved has always been clear that we would not compete until we were ready. For us to be ready we needed to be safe, competitive and reliable. Our testing has proven that we have met all of these conditions. I will be very happy if we complete our first race without stopping and finish in the top ten."

VOLVO XC90 BINNENKORT OOK MET V8 MOTOR

In de Verenigde Staten is circa 30% van de verkochte SUVs in het premium-segment voorzien van een V8-motor. Concreet betekent dit dat de vijf- en zescilinderuitvoeringen van de Volvo XC90 slechts 70% van de potentiele kopersmarkt bereiken. Met de introductie van de V8-versie van de XC90 verwacht Volvo dit gat te dichten.

"Onze V8-motor biedt krachtige prestaties en we kunnen ons moeiteloos meten met de sterkste concurrenten uit het premium-segment. Sterker nog, we zijn ervan overtuigd dat een groot aantal klanten de combinatie van kracht en rijeigenschappen, en een hoog niveau van veiligheid en aandacht voor het milieu, weet te waarderen. Het was voor ons erg belangrijk dat we een achtcilinder op de markt konden brengen die voldoet aan onze kernwaarden", legt Hans-Olov Olsson, President en CEO van Volvo Cars, uit.

De grootste kracht van de Volvo XC90 V8 zit m in de aandrijflijn. Met andere woorden: in de combinatie van de motor, de nieuwe zestraps Geartronic automaat en de vierwielaandrijving met Instant Traction.
Dit laatste systeem geeft de XC90 ook op een slecht wegdek aanzienlijk meer grip. Een ander punt is dat de V8 de meest compacte is in zijn soort. Hierdoor was het mogelijk de krachtbron dwars onder de motorkap te plaatsen. Vanuit milieutechnisch oogpunt is het noemenswaardig dat de Volvo-achtcilinder de eerste is die zowel aan de Amerikaanse ULEV II-normen als aan de toekomstige Euro 5-emissie-eisen voldoet.

De prestaties op het gebied van veiligheid en milieu zorgen ervoor dat Volvo's V8-uitvoering binnen dit specifieke segment een unieke positie inneemt. Een segment waar in eerste instantie aandacht wordt besteed aan rijplezier, kracht en het geluid van de motor. Dit laatste aspect speelt bij de V8-motoren een grote rol. Een traditionele Amerikaanse
V8 heeft namelijk een laag, onregelmatig geluid, terwijl Europeanen meer van een subtielere roffel houden. "Onze V8 heeft alles in huis wat nodig is om de Amerikaanse markt te veroveren. Het klassieke V8-geluid is aanwezig, maar het is een stuk verfijnder, waardoor duidelijk wordt dat de Volvo XC90 V8 een Europese premium SUV is", aldus Olsson.

Volvo Cars verwacht per jaar 15.000 XC90s V8 te gaan verkopen, waarbij het overgrote deel (circa 75%) op de Noord-Amerikaanse markt zal worden afgezet. Dit namelijk is veruit de grootste afzetmarkt voor V8-motoren, gevolgd door Canada en Mexico. Duitsland neemt in dit rijtje de vierde plaats in, Japan de vijfde. De verkoop in de Verenigde Staten start begin 2005, waarna de Volvo XC90 V8 geleidelijk op de overige markten zal worden geintroduceerd. Volvo Cars Nederland verwacht de V8 medio februari 2005 in Nederland.

Als het aan de gemeente Nijmegen ligt mogen die XC90's, X5-en, ML-len enz. daar straks niet eens meer geparkeerd worden. Minister Peijs van Verkeer en Waterstaat onderzoekt ook mogelijkheden om dergelijke regels landelijk in te voeren. Deze auto's zouden onveilig zijn doordat ze zwaar zijn, vrachtwagens mogen in Nederland nog altijd maximaal 50 ton wegen, het hoogste gewicht in Europa  .

In wat voor land leven wij??? Dit gaat toch helemaal nergens meer over?? Straks verbieden ze nog om auto's van bepaalde afmetingen te kopen, of komt daar weer een toeslag op de belasting bij onder het mom van melkkoetje nummertje zoveel . Ik rij Volvo omdat: 1. ik het een mooie auto vind,  2. ik het een veilige auto vind, 3. hij me veel ruimte biedt (gezin met 3 opgroeiende pubers van 11, 13 en 15) en 4. ik niet in zo'n eenheidsworst wil die Zafira of Scenic heet waar de half Nederland al mee rijdt .

Volvo kiest dus met de XC90 eieren voor z'n geld en gaat zich op de USA toeleggen, waar de benzine nog altijd een schijntje kost en men over groot, breed, hoog en stoer niets te zeuren heeft  . De XC90 was altijd al voor de USA bestemd maar zo stilletjes aan zie je ze in Nederland toch ook heel veel, zeker zo rond de Gooise matras  .
