Macbook of Macbook Pro?

So Barry, i'd pick the Pro. More and more apps can have benefit from the graphics card, CS4 already does for instance. Snow Leopard is also able to use a lot more resources from the graphics cars than previous OS-es.
I've had both some 13 and 15" models (now working on my early 2008 model 15"), the 15" is just slighty heavier and offers a bit more working space for the palets in the Adobe apps.
It also has FireWire which the 13" lacks..

FelixB, zit jij nog ergen vast in het verleden ? Starcraft is volgens mij een spel van meer dan een decennium oud, en die termen als Commander en Powerdesk klinken me ook erg stoffig in de oren. Bestanden verplaatsen op een Mac gaat idem dito als een PC mijns inziens, al is het gehele bestandssysteem op de Mac veel gestructureerder.
Qua mapindeling kan je zelf heel veel doen, net als in Windows.
Daarbij is het volgens mij juist de Mac die de inhaalslag gemaakt heeft, met name in efficientie van het hardwaregebruik als ook gebruiksvriendelijkheid.

Van alle draadloze bende die ik heb meegemaakt is de Airport toch wel het meest geëvolueerd in gebruiksgemak en functionaliteit. Het biedt niet meer dan andere routers, maar het gemak waarmee ze na een reset (of nieuw apparaat) in te stellen zijn is volgens mij wel ongekend. Hoevaak ik mensen wel niet heb horen klagen over brakke netwerken en onmogelijk in te stellen routers.. vergeet niet dat de meeste mensen totaal géén interesse hebben in HOE het apparaat werkt, ALS het maar werkt. Iets wat voor computerfanatici (waar ik mezelf allang niet meer onder schaar) nogal eens moeilijk te bevatten is.
Man, m'n Airports (Extreme en Express, aan de stereo) staan al maanden of zelfs langer dan een jaar te draaien zonder gedoe, slechts een enkele update hier en daar.
Iedereen kan er verbinding mee maken, en na het installeren van Bonjour op Windows ook direct printen of muziek streamen.

Ook Apple heeft natuurlijk wel z'n makken, dat zal ik ook nooit ontkennen. Maar het is wel een verademing dat het spul bijna altijd paraat staat als jij dat wil zonder al teveel afleidende boodschappen e.d.

So I've pretty much decided on the Pro, Yay!

Now which one? the 17" baby is obviously very sweet, but is seriously over priced imo, and having compared the 15" and 17" next to each other, I see hardly any diff between the two screens.

Does anyone have any experience with the 2.4Ghz version with 2Gb of RAM? I'm really wanting to have at least 4Gb of RAM but I'm wondering if that's even necessary. The only upgrade I would do is move to a 7200rpm HD. Is there a huge difference between the 256Mb and 512Mb 8600M GT graphics cards? what about processors? Is it even worth bumping up to the 2.66Ghz or is 2.4Ghz enough?

What are your plans on doing with it ? The more speed the better ofcourse, also makes the computer a bit more durable. But if you're not going to be busy doing a lotta video editing or gaming you wont need the better gfx card, and probably the better cpu neither. The upgrade to 2.93 Ghz in that case would be more noticable though.
I'm using a (prev version) 2.4 Ghz with 256Mb 8600M GT card and 2 Gb, which easily runs CS3 or games like Grid for instance.
The current Pro has a 9600M card by the way.
If you're working with large files all the time I'd recommend the 7200 rpm drive, but it also uses a bit more juice if you're working mobile. Personally I wouldnt mind the slower drive, I do some RAW photo editing from time to time but it hardly takes any time to load a few photos at the same time.

The only advantage of the 17" Pro (besides the specs) is the much higher resolution, but they're so much bigger and heavier to carry.. Oh, and the battery does 5-6 hrs easily, compared to about 2,5-3,5 hrs with the 15"

I do a lot of heavy editing in photoshop and illustrator, sometimes with files in excess of 200 layers easy. Gaming is not a priority, but when I get into a game, I do want it to run smooth and not miss a beat when I'm playing.

The current MBP has a 9600M GT and a 9400M

7200rpm drive is just a must and I'd be stupid not to go for it since its only a 50 euro upgrade or so.

I think I'll be going for the 2.4 15" with 2, maaaybe 4Gb upgrade. I don't see the need in having a GT card with 512Mb when 256Mb is already pretty adequate. Battery life doesn't interest me too much since mine will be plugged in most of the time anyway.

Barry, using most of time photoshop and illustrator buy at least 4 gb ram. Also memory in the graphic card must be at least 512 mb. The speed from the harddisk is less important, only by editing video and movie's. Further I'm not playing on my pc. Success. peter

In that case I would put the 4Gb in for sure, the gfx card isnt still that important because PS and ILLU dont use a lot of hardware acceleration, although CS4 and the future OS'es can make use of the gfx card for 2d acceleration and other processes.

Still, my advice, go to an apple store. Find the good guy and let them talk and explain about everything you want. My experience is that they are trustfull. Don't go to Dixon's or Dynabite, Media Markt or what so ever. Regards, peter
